Valerie Duffy

Valerie Duffy is a Professor and Director of the Graduate Program in Allied Health Sciences at the University of Connecticut. Her research explores sensory nutrition—how chemosensory perception affects dietary choices—and community-based interventions to improve nutrition in vulnerable populations, particularly children. She employs tailored messaging and technology to promote health equity.

Recent publications (2022-2025) cluster in three areas: olfaction dysfunction mechanisms, precision nutrition frameworks, and digital tools for child/adolescent health. These reflect interdisciplinary approaches bridging clinical practice, public health, and technology.

Awards recognize her contributions to teaching, research, and service. She has mentored 51 Master’s and 4 doctoral students, often involving them in federally funded community projects.
