Valentina Moro is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Stony Brook University. She holds a PhD from the University of Padua (2018) and has held postdoctoral roles at institutions including the Istituto Italiano per gli Studi Filosofici (Italy), Center for Advanced Studies for South-East Europe (Croatia), and DePaul University (USA). Her research bridges feminist philosophy, political theory, and classical antiquity with a focus on ancient Greek tragedy.
Key research areas include the politics of care, vulnerability in feminist theory, black/decolonial feminist analyses of communality, and the intersection of classical antiquity with gender studies. She investigates themes like tragic agonism in Sophocles' works and Foucault's theories of power through a theatrical lens.
Recipient of the 2023 Kyoo Lee Prize for outstanding work on LGBTQ issues in philosophy, Moro's current project 'Choreographies of Vulnerability' explores institutional care infrastructures and collective practices funded by the EU's Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant (no. 101029336). She contributes to scholarly societies including the Society for Women in Philosophy.
Recent activities include keynote addresses on care and democracy at the Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy conference, and participation in critical democracy studies initiatives.
