Valentina Glajar

Dr. Valentina Glajar is Professor of German Studies and Honorary Professor of International Studies at Texas State University’s Department of World Languages & Literatures, College of Liberal Arts. She serves as coordinator of the German Division and has received prestigious accolades including the 2025 George Blazyca Prize and the ACLS Fellowship (2019).

• B.A. in German from University Babes-Bolyai Cluj, Romania
• Ph.D. in German Studies from University of Texas at Austin

Her research focuses on German-language literature from Central/Eastern Europe, secret police archives, life writing, Holocaust studies in Romania, Cold War espionage, and Roma communities. She has co-edited Secret Police Files from the Eastern Bloc (2016) and Cold War Spy Stories from Eastern Europe (2019), and authored The Secret Police Dossier of Herta Müller (2023), translated into Romanian (2025) and promoted through a national book tour.

Recent grants include a 2025 College of Liberal Arts Seed Grant ($3000) and a 2020 ACLS grant ($70,000). She has served on editorial boards for Studii Romanesti (2024–present) and the Journal of the Society for Romanian Studies (2017–present), and organized academic conferences on surveillance and inclusion.
