Valentina Geri is a Lecturer in Italian Studies at Smith College. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame (2021), with a dissertation on Primo Levi's engagement with Anglophone culture. Her academic background includes M.A. and B.A. degrees from the University of Siena, specializing in English and German, as well as additional research exchanges at the University of Heidelberg, University of Cambridge, and Colby College.
Her research interests span Italian contemporary literature, comparative literatures, Holocaust studies, fascism and cinema, literature and science, and second language acquisition. She has published on Primo Levi’s connections to Shakespeare and Kafka, neorealist cinema, and representations of Italian identity during fascism. Geri has also organized transnational academic initiatives, such as the 2021 Summer School Primo Levi. Transnational Perspectives.
Geri teaches Italian language courses at all levels, as well as courses on Italian cultural testimonies, fascism, and the works of Primo Levi. She maintains an active research agenda, focusing on interdisciplinary themes like animal studies, ecocriticism, and the intersections of literature and science.
