Dr Valentina Caldari is a College Associate Professor and Director of Studies in History at St Catharine's College, University of Cambridge. She holds affiliations as an Affiliated Lecturer in the Faculty of History and oversees Postgraduate Admissions in Arts. Her research focuses on early modern European politics, global influences on 16th-17th century diplomacy, and dynastic alliances.
Dr Caldari earned a joint PhD from the Universities of Kent (UK) and Porto (Portugal), following undergraduate studies in Rome. Her career includes roles at Balliol College, Oxford, and extensive editorial work on topics like Stuart marriage diplomacy and court factions.
Her research interests emphasize how global events shaped European political strategies, with a particular focus on trade, piracy, and the role of queens consort in diplomatic negotiations. She has published widely on dynastic politics and court mechanisms in early modern Europe.
