Valentin Dymnikov

Valentin Dymnikov is a distinguished Professor and prominent figure in atmospheric and climate science, currently serving as Director of the Institute of Numerical Mathematics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) in Moscow since 2000. Elected as a Full member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 1997 and to the Academy of Europe in 2004 (Earth & Cosmic Sciences Section), his career spans over five decades of research and leadership in numerical modeling of atmospheric processes.

Professor Dymnikov's research focuses on the mathematical foundations of atmospheric dynamics, with significant contributions to numerical weather prediction, climate modeling, and atmospheric circulation theory. His work integrates advanced mathematical techniques with geophysical applications, particularly in understanding baroclinic instability, atmospheric humidity dynamics, and the predictability of large-scale atmospheric processes. He has pioneered approaches using adjoint equations and fluctuation-dissipation relations to better understand atmospheric behavior.
