معرفی
Val Franklin is a Research Fellow at the Biomaterials Research Unit, Aston University, within the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences. She holds a PhD in Lipoidal Species in Ocular Spoilation Processes (Aston University, 1990) and a BSc in Biological Sciences from Wolverhampton Polytechnic (1986). Her research focuses on biomedical polymers' interaction with biological systems, lipid analysis in ocular environments, and biomimetic materials for prosthetics like spinal discs and keratoprosthesis. She has contributed to projects since 1996 through Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and has held roles in academic administration and safety committees.
Research Interests:
- Biocompatibility of ophthalmic materials
- Lipid and protein deposition on contact lenses
- Biomaterials for spinal disc repair
- Tear film dynamics and dry eye disease
- Biodegradable polymers for surgical applications
Awards:
- Professor Jeffreys Prize (PhD Final Year)
- British Contact Lens Association Dallos Award (1995)
- Multiple BCLA poster prizes
Her work bridges biomaterials science with clinical applications, emphasizing material-tissue interactions and translational research. She contributes to MSc practicals in biomaterials and undergraduate teaching in chemistry of living systems.
