Vahid Parvaresh

Vahid Parvaresh serves as Associate Professor of Linguistics and Deputy Head of School for Humanities and Social Sciences at Anglia Ruskin University's Faculty of Arts, Humanities, Education and Social Sciences. His academic leadership extends to being Course Leader for ARU's BA (Hons) English Language and Linguistics program and active participation in university governance.

His educational background includes:

• MA in Applied Linguistics from University of Tehran, Iran
• PhD in Applied Linguistics from University of Isfahan, Iran
• PGCert in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from Anglia Ruskin University

Parvaresh's research centers on pragmatics with particular emphasis on vague and elastic language, (im)politeness phenomena, and language aggression. His work examines how people use language in routine and emerging situations, investigating pragmatic particles, vague expressions, and the moral dimensions of communication. He explores how globalized practices interact with local contexts in shaping communication patterns, with special attention to social media and intercultural communication.

His scholarly recognition includes being a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, member of the International Pragmatics Association, Associate Editor of the Bibliography of Pragmatics, and Editorial Board Member for Contrastive Pragmatics.

Parvaresh actively supervises PhD candidates working on diverse projects related to incivility, conflictual interactions, student attitudes toward English, and intercultural competence. His editorial work includes guest-editing special journal issues on topics such as language aggression and moral order, and 'sort of' across Asian languages.

He leads research groups focused on pragmatic phenomena and regularly organizes academic events, including the 12th International Conference on (Im)Politeness held at Anglia Ruskin University in 2019.
