Dr. Vahid Garousi is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Queen’s University Belfast, UK. Previously, he held positions as an Associate Professor at Wageningen University (Netherlands), Hacettepe University (Turkey), and the University of Calgary (Canada). He earned his PhD in Software Engineering from Carleton University, Canada (2006). His research focuses on software testing, empirical software engineering, model-driven engineering, and healthcare systems engineering, with an emphasis on industry-academia collaboration.
Dr. Garousi has led over 40 industry projects, contributing to software-intensive systems development and testing. He has published over 120 peer-reviewed papers and is recognized as a top-tier researcher in software engineering. Awards include the Alberta Ingenuity New Faculty Award (2007) and the IEEE Distinguished Speaker honor (2012–2015). He is a licensed Professional Engineer (PEng) in Alberta, Canada, and serves as a consultant in software testing and quality assurance.
His key research areas include AI-driven testing tools, model-based testing, and test process improvement (e.g., TMMi adoption). He actively mentors PhD students and chairs workshops like NEXTA, advancing automation in testing. Notable projects include the XANDAR framework for safety-critical systems. Dr. Garousi also contributes to conferences and editorial boards, emphasizing practical relevance in software engineering research.
