Dr. Vahid Dabbaghian serves as an Adjunct Professor at Simon Fraser University (SFU) with over two decades of teaching experience across institutions including BCIT, Douglas College, University of Calgary, and Carleton University. He directed the Modelling of Complex Social Systems (MoCSSy) Program at SFU's IRMACS Centre, leading multidisciplinary projects funded by BC government ministries.
His academic credentials:
- Ph.D. in Computational Algebra, Carleton University
- Postdoctoral Research, University of Calgary and SFU
Research focuses on mathematical modelling of complex social systems, computational algebra, and mathematical software development. He pioneered the REPSN package for GAP and co-developed Maplesoft's GroupTheory package, demonstrating deep integration of theoretical mathematics with practical computational tools. His methodology emphasizes analyzing societal challenges through advanced algebraic techniques and statistical frameworks.
Through MoCSSy Program leadership, he secured funding from BC's Health, Public Safety, and Attorney General ministries for projects addressing real-world social dynamics. His teaching innovations incorporate Python, R, Google Colab, and Excel to bridge abstract mathematical concepts with applied problem-solving in undergraduate and graduate curricula.
