Dr. Uzoma Monye is a Teaching Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, nested within the School of Chemical Sciences. She joined the faculty in August 2020, focusing on enhancing engineering education, student engagement, and retention strategies, particularly during the challenges of the pandemic. She holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Columbia University, and a M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, where she studied blood coagulation mechanisms. Prior to Illinois, she taught at Nigerian institutions and served as a postdoctoral researcher at North Carolina A&T State University.
Her teaching responsibilities include the Unit Operations Laboratory and Introduction to the Engineering Profession, emphasizing hands-on learning and adaptability to remote education. Collaborating with colleagues, she spearheads cross-curricular design projects and the revitalization of undergraduate laboratory facilities, including the Chemical Engineering Laboratory Fundamentals and Unit Operations in Chemical Engineering courses. She advocates for inclusive STEM education to motivate students toward successful engineering careers.
