Uzi Rabi

Professor Uzi Rabi holds the rank of Professor of Middle Eastern History at Tel Aviv University's Department of Middle Eastern and African Studies, while also serving as Director of the Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies and a senior researcher at the Center for Iranian Studies. Previously, he was head of the Middle Eastern and African History Department (2004-2005) and served as a visiting professor at San Diego State University's Lipinski Institute. His research focuses on modern Middle Eastern state evolution, Iranian-Arab relations, oil politics, and Sunni-Shi’a dynamics. He advises doctoral candidates and contributes to global policy discussions via regular briefings to the Israeli Knesset. Professor Rabi co-edits Bustan: The Middle East Book Review and authored books like The Return of the Past (2019) and Yemen: Revolution, Civil War and Unification (2015). He is deeply engaged with Jewish communities worldwide through organizations like the World Jewish Congress and Israeli American Council.

His academic work bridges historical analysis with geopolitical strategy, organizing the annual Tel Aviv University Workshop for global scholars studying regional dynamics. Research interests further extend to the interplay between cognitive neuroscience and cultural anthropology, as seen in his publications on embodied cognition, digital transformation, and narrative theory.

Professor Rabi's contributions span academic leadership (directing research centers, mentoring students) and public engagement (policy advising, anti-antisemitism advocacy). His writings blend rigorous historical scholarship with contemporary relevance, addressing both regional conflicts and broader socio-cultural shifts in the Middle East.
