Uygar Aydemir is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Üsküdar University’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Istanbul. He holds a PhD in History (Sabancı University, 2017), MA in Turkish Literature (Bilkent University, 2010), and BA in Cultural Studies (Sabancı University, 2006). His research focuses on Ottoman Empire history, particularly the Tanzimat bureaucracy, 19th-century political thought, and historical epidemiology. He has published in journals like Geopolitics Quarterly and Leskovacki Zbornik, and authored/co-authored books with Bloomsbury and Routledge. Aydemir serves as Editor-in-Chief of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Dergisi and holds administrative roles including Head of Department of History since 2019. His recent work examines the psychological impacts of epidemics on political renewal and orientalist influences on Ottoman travel narratives.
