Uyen-sa Nguyen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Population and Community Health at the College of Public Health, UNT Health Science Center. She holds degrees in Doctor of Science (DSc) and Master of Public Health (MPH). Her research focuses on public health epidemiology, osteoarthritis, health disparities, and global health issues, particularly among Vietnamese American communities. She has led numerous sponsored projects, including the Viet-American Health Pilot Study and studies on knee osteoarthritis prevalence and treatment outcomes.
Key research interests include the epidemiology of falls in older adults, the impact of comorbidities on Alzheimer’s disease, and the association between discrimination and health outcomes like BMI in Asian American populations. Her work also addresses pandemic impacts, such as vaccine hesitancy during the COVID-19 crisis and war-related mental health in Ukraine.
Dr. Nguyen has over 64 peer-reviewed publications and 3,570 citations, with an h-index of 27. Current active projects include the Viet-American National Databank Pilot Study and studies on aging trajectories and aging health disparities. Her research consistently bridges epidemiological methods with community-based interventions to address health inequities.
