Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Haberlandt is a University Professor for Water Management at the Leibniz University Hannover, affiliated with the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodetic Science and the Institute of Hydrology and Water Resources Management. He holds multiple leadership roles including Executive Director of the Institute, Chairperson of the Examination Board for Civil Engineering, and board member of the Distance Study in Water and Environment.
His professional background includes roles as Senior Engineer at Ruhr University Bochum (2001–2004), Scientist at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (1998–2001), and Post-Doc at the National Hydrology Research Institute in Canada (1996–1998). He has extensive research experience in hydrological modeling, urban drainage systems, and climate change impacts.
Research focuses include water and material balance modeling, flood forecasting, decision support systems for river basins, stochastic methods, geostatistical analysis, and global change research. Recent projects involve synthetic precipitation time series for urban drainage optimization, space-time dynamics of extreme floods, and regional climate change impact assessments on groundwater levels.
Key publications address extreme precipitation statistics, derived flood frequency analysis, and radar-based nowcasting techniques. He leads interdisciplinary teams and collaborates on national initiatives like ClimXtreme and the Future Lab Water (ZLW). His work bridges hydrology with environmental engineering, emphasizing practical applications for sustainable water management.
