Uwe Drescher is a Professor of Molecular Neurobiology at the Developmental Neurobiology department within the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience at King’s College London. He leads the MRC Centre for Developmental Neurobiology and has held roles including Group Leader at the Max-Planck-Institute for Developmental Biology. His research focuses on axon guidance mechanisms, Eph/ephrin signaling, and neural circuit development in the visual system. He earned a Doctor of Science in Biology from the German Cancer Research Center (1990).
- Key areas: Axon guidance, synaptogenesis, autism mechanisms, neural connectivity
- Notable for discovering EphA/ephrin-A roles in retinotectal mapping (1995) and advancing miRNA-neurotrophin interactions
- Principal Investigator on projects funded by BBSRC and MRC
Research emphasizes molecular mechanisms in neural development, including roles of microglia, autophagy, and vesicle transport. Collaborations include Prof Robert Hindges and Prof Matthias Gautel at King’s College.
