Ute Smit is a Professor of English Linguistics at the University of Vienna's Department of English / Institut für Anglistik und Amerikanistik. She serves as Deputy Head of the Research Platform "Mediatised Lifeworlds: Young people's narrative constructions, connections and appropriations" and has held various leadership roles including Department Head and Deputy Head. Her research focuses on English-medium education in multilingual university settings, combining ELF (English as a Lingua Franca) and CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) frameworks.
- Research: Specializes in disciplinary literacies, language policy, classroom discourse analysis, and teacher education
