Ute Schmid

Prof. Dr. Ute Schmid is a Professor of Applied Computer Science/Cognitive Systems at the University of Bamberg. She leads the Chair of Cognitive Systems and serves as Executive Director of the Bamberg Center of Artificial Intelligence (BaCAI). With dual diplomas in Psychology and Computer Science from TU Berlin (1994 PhD, 2002 Habilitation), her research focuses on explainable AI, neuro-symbolic systems, and AI education. She holds leadership roles in the Bavarian AI Council, bidt Board, and Fraunhofer IIS Comprehensible AI group. Her work emphasizes ethical AI, K-12 computer science education (via FELI project), and promoting gender equality in STEM. Schmid has pioneered AI literacy initiatives, including outreach programs for schools and teachers.
