Ute Hochgeschwender

Ute Hochgeschwender is a tenured Professor at the College of Medicine, Central Michigan University, and a faculty member in the Graduate Programs in Neuroscience and Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology. She earned her MD and MA from the Free University of Berlin and completed postdoctoral training at the Max Planck Institute for Immunobiology and The Scripps Research Institute.

• Specializes in bioluminescent optogenetics for neural circuit manipulation
• Developed tools combining opto- and chemogenetic approaches
• Focus on non-invasive treatments for neurological and psychiatric diseases

Her research includes genetically engineered mouse models targeting somatostatin, dynorphin, and POMC pathways, supported by NSF, NIH, and Keck Foundation grants. She has been recognized with the President’s Award for Research and Creative Activity.
