Usman Alabi

Usman Alabi is currently a PhD Candidate and Associate Tutor (holding the academic rank of Tutor) in the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Warwick.

His educational qualifications are:

• Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Lagos
• Master of Science from the University of Lagos

His primary research interests include Security Studies, Everyday Political Economy, African Politics, Global Geopolitics, Counterterrorism, and International Development. His doctoral research specifically investigates the political economy of counterterrorism in Nigeria, with a focus on the Lake Chad region. He examines how counterterrorism measures have impacted the everyday political economy of local populations, leading to the creation of a conflict economy to which people have adapted, the various actors involved in this process, and the implications for development.

He is supervised by Dr Jessica Di Salvatore and Dr Akin Oyawale. In his teaching role as a Senior Graduate Teaching Assistant, he leads seminars for the module PO107: Introduction to Politics.
