Louis Stockwell is a PhD Candidate and Associate Tutor in the Department of Politics and International Studies (PAIS) at the University of Warwick since 2021. His research focuses on referendums, political polarisation, and democratic innovations. He holds a BA (Hons) in International Politics from the University of Huddersfield and an MSc (cum laude) in Political Science from Leiden University.
His doctoral thesis examines the effects of referendums on political realignment in democracies, supervised by Professors Ece Özlem Atikcan and Michael Saward. Research interests include comparative politics, democratic innovations, and mixed-methods analysis.
Teaching includes modules like PO132S Contemporary Themes in Comparative Politics and PO107 Introduction to Politics. His work has been recognized with awards such as the 2024 Warwick Higher Performance Award and ECPR Best Paper Prize (2023). He is a Research Assistant on 'The Politics of Policy Formulation in the European Commission' and Co-Chair of the Critical International & Political Studies (CRIPS) graduate group.
