Ursula Münster is an Associate Professor of Environmental Humanities and founding director of the Oslo School of Environmental Humanities (OSEH) at the University of Oslo. Her research focuses on multispecies studies, political ecology, and feminist STS, examining human-wildlife relationships in the Anthropocene with a focus on South India. She has conducted long-term ethnographic work in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, exploring conservation, coexistence, and interspecies conflict.
Trained in social and cultural anthropology at the Escuela Nacional de Antropología e Historia (Mexico) and Ludwig Maximilian University Munich (PhD 2006, Habilitation 2018), she previously led academic programs at the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society. Her current project Anthropogenic Soils (funded by Norway's Research Council) investigates human-impacted soils and environmental futures.
Teaching emphasizes interdisciplinary engagement with the Anthropocene, including the Honours Certificate in Environmental Humanities and Sciences. She co-edits volumes like Responding to the Anthropocene and publishes on topics such as multispecies care, pharmaceutical impacts on wildlife, and conservation ethics. Active in academic governance, she serves on boards including Biotopia Museum and the Norwegian Researcher School in Environmental Humanities.
