Prof. Dr. Urs Frauenfelder is a Faculty Member in the Institute of Mathematics at the University of Augsburg, holding the W2-Professorship in Analysis and Geometry since 2014. His research focuses on symplectic geometry, Floer homology, and Hamiltonian dynamics with applications to celestial mechanics and magnetic fields. He has held positions at ETH Zürich, Hokkaido University, Ludwig-Maximilian University, and Seoul National University, where he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2011.
- PhD in Mathematics (2003), ETH Zürich
- Diploma in Mathematics (2000), ETH Zürich
Prof. Frauenfelder's research spans symplectic topology, Hamiltonian delay equations, and celestial mechanics, with significant work on frozen planet orbits, the restricted three-body problem, and magnetic field dynamics. His recent publications explore variational methods, nullity bounds, and convex symplectic domains.
Key trends in his article list include symplectic methods for celestial mechanics, Floer homology in quantum systems, and Hamiltonian delay equations for periodic solutions. Collaborations with Joa Weber, Agustin Moreno, and Kai Cieliebak highlight interdisciplinary applications.
Scientific honors include the Willy Studer Price (2000), Swiss National Foundation Grant (2003-2004), JSPS Fellowship (2004-2005), and Humboldt Fellowship (2012-2013). He serves as Dean of Studies at the Institute of Mathematics since 2022 and chairs the Mathematisch-Physikalischer Verein e.V.
