Urs Fischbacher is a full Professor of Applied Research in Economics at the University of Konstanz since 2007 and head of the Thurgau Institute of Economics in Kreuzlingen, Switzerland. He was elected as an Ordinary Member of the Academy of Europe in 2018 in the section 'The Human Mind and Its Complexity'.
His research focuses on behavioral and experimental economics, particularly in the domain of social preferences and non-selfish behavior. Fischbacher is renowned for developing the z-Tree software, which enables researchers to design economic experiments with minimal programming knowledge. His work has significantly advanced our understanding of punishment behavior, examining how intentions and responsibility influence human responses, and he created a widely-used experimental paradigm for investigating honesty.
