Professor Urmi Duttagupta is a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics at New York City College of Technology, part of The City University of New York (CUNY) system. She holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from New Jersey Institute of Technology and Rutgers University, and a B.S. in Mathematics from The Ohio State University. Her research spans optimization, infectious disease modeling, and graph theory applications in biodiversity problems.
- PhD, Applied Mathematics (NJIT and Rutgers)
- B.S., Mathematics (Ohio State)
Her research integrates mathematical modeling with real-world challenges, including:
- Optimization techniques for STEM education retention
- Epidemiological models of cholera transmission
- Graph theory approaches to biodiversity and environmental analysis
Recent publications highlight interdisciplinary collaborations in mathematical biology, environmental science, and STEM education reform. She has received major NSF S-STEM grants, MAA NREUP funding, and fellowships for civic engagement initiatives.
- NSF S-STEM Grant #1458714 (2015-2019)
- MAA NREUP Grants (2011-2016)
- SENCER Leadership Fellowship
- National Society of Collegiate Scholars Distinguished Member Award (2014)
She has mentored approximately 40 students through programs like NYC-AMP, City Tech’s Emerging Scholar Program, and MAA NREUP grants. Her work also bridges mathematical art and social commentary, with geometric patterns and mathematical symbols appearing in her creative projects.
