Urban Friberg is a Professor at Linköping University's Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM), within the Biology (BIOLO) division. His research focuses on evolutionary genetics, particularly the intersection of aging and sex differences in organisms like Drosophila melanogaster. Key areas include the genetic basis of aging, sexual dimorphism, genomic conflicts, and mutation effects across lifespans.
His work has revealed how mutations influence aging differently with age, the desexualization of brain transcriptomes in aging fruit flies, and sex-specific lifespan strategies. Collaborations include researchers from institutions like Uppsala University, Monash University, and the University of Tennessee.
He leads the Friberg Group and is affiliated with SciLifeLab Linköping, leveraging advanced life science technologies. Notable contributions include studies on X chromosome effects on lifespan and the role of diet in microbiota dynamics.
Recent grants include VR funding for research projects in aging and genetics. His findings bridge evolutionary theory with molecular mechanisms, advancing understanding of aging and genomic conflicts.
