Unnikrishnan Sasidharan Nair is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Florida A&M University-Florida State University College of Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from The Ohio State University (2016) and has conducted postdoctoral research there. His work focuses on computational fluid dynamics, compressible flows, and aero-acoustics, with expertise in high-speed flow instabilities and noise prediction.
Education:
- Ph.D., Aerospace Engineering, The Ohio State University
- M. Tech., Aerospace Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur
- B. Tech., Mechanical Engineering, Mar Athanasius College of Engineering, India
Research Interests: Dr. Nair investigates hydrodynamic stability mechanisms in hypersonic boundary layers, noise source identification in supersonic jets, and energy-based approaches for flow analysis. His methods combine high-fidelity simulations with advanced modal and statistical tools. Current projects explore operator-free hydrodynamic stability theory to understand unsteadiness in high-speed flows.
Labs & Facilities: He is affiliated with the Computational Aero Sciences Laboratory (CASL) at Florida State University and contributes to the FCAAP, CISCOR, and ENERGY laboratories. His group utilizes high-performance computing resources for fluid dynamics research.
