معرفی
Dr. Unjali Gujral serves as an Assistant Professor in the Hubert Department of Global Health at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health. A chronic disease epidemiologist with expertise in diabetes and cardiovascular health disparities, she maintains active research collaborations with the MASALA and CARRS studies focused on South Asian populations.
Her academic background includes:
- BA from University of California, Irvine (2003)
- MPH from Yale University (2010)
- PhD in Nutrition and Health Science from Emory University (2015)
- Post-doctoral fellowship completion (2017)
Dr. Gujral's research centers on racial/ethnic disparities in diabetes, with emphasis on pathophysiological mechanisms of cardiovascular disease and diabetes etiology in minority and immigrant populations. Her work uniquely bridges social determinants of health with biological pathways, particularly examining cardiometabolic risks in South Asian communities globally. Current investigations explore diabetes subtypes, mortality differentials, and culturally tailored interventions addressing the dual burden of undernutrition and obesity.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals dominant trends in South Asian diabetes epidemiology, global cardiometabolic burden assessment, and community-engaged approaches to pandemic-related health disparities. Her work consistently employs large-scale pooled analyses and cohort studies spanning multiple continents.
Scientific recognition includes:
- Fulbright Scholarship (2012)
- Excellence in Research Award from Emory's Hubert Department of Global Health (2018)
Dr. Gujral teaches GH 534 (Diabetes: Global Dis Prev & Cntrl) and contributes to Rollins School of Public Health initiatives. Her research program leverages the MASALA study (Mediators of Atherosclerosis in South Asians Living in America) and CARRS cohort (Center for Cardiometabolic Risk Reduction in South Asia) as primary investigative frameworks, with growing emphasis on community-driven pandemic response models through the Georgia Community Engaged Alliance.
