Dr. Lang's research interests focus on innovative approaches to psychiatric treatment, with particular emphasis on open-door psychiatry, modular psychotherapy, and resilience development. Her work explores the integration of complementary therapeutic approaches including nutrition-based interventions, animal-assisted therapy, sports and exercise as therapy, and the therapeutic potential of psychedelic substances. She investigates the gut-brain connection and develops diagnosis-specific psychotherapeutic treatments for depression, addiction disorders, psychoses, anxiety disorders, and personality disorders.
Her research portfolio demonstrates consistent focus on translating scientific findings into clinical practice, with numerous studies examining the implementation of new therapeutic approaches in real-world settings. Recent work has investigated the cardiovascular benefits of exercise therapy for depression, the application of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in workplace settings, and the therapeutic potential of psychedelic substances like LSD for anxiety and depression.
Dr. Lang has established specialized departments at the UPK Basel that provide diagnosis-specific treatment using interdisciplinary approaches. She pioneered the world's first inpatient unit for Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders in 2013, which has since been expanded to other units including private wards, behavioral addiction units, and depression units.
