Umut Barutlu serves as a Lecturer in the English Preparatory Program at the School of Foreign Languages, Istanbul Beykent University, where he teaches General English and holds administrative duties in the Measurement and Evaluation Unit for testing.

Barutlu's research spans literary theory and comparative literature, with a focus on philosophical concepts including Nietzschean philosophy and panentheism. He investigates themes of humanity, sin, redemption, and human rights through archetypal analysis in canonical literary works such as Lord of the Flies and Midnight's Children.
His recent publications (2019-2021) critically examine religious and philosophical dimensions in literature, particularly in the novels of William Golding and Salman Rushdie. This work underscores literature's capacity to address complex ethical and theological questions, contributing to interdisciplinary dialogues on morality and human rights.
