Umran S. İnan

Prof. Dr. Umran S. İnan is a faculty member at the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and the Department of Physics at Koç University. He served as the President of Koç University from 2009 to 2021 and was previously a Professor at Stanford University for over 30 years, including as Director of the Space, Telecommunications, and Radioscience Laboratory.

His research focuses on

• electromagnetic wave-particle interactions
• very low frequency radio science

His work has led to pioneering discoveries in lightning-ionosphere interactions and magnetosphere wave-particle dynamics, with global observations from Earth-orbiting satellites at over 50 sites across seven continents.
