Umme Zeinab Mulla

Dr. Umme Zeinab Mulla serves as a Senior Teaching Fellow in Public Health within the School of Public Health at Imperial College London's Faculty of Medicine. She is the Course Organiser for the Master of Public Health (MPH) program and holds dual professional recognition as a Registered Public Health Nutritionist (RNutr) and a Nutritional Epidemiologist. Additionally, she is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), underscoring her commitment to excellence in academic teaching.

Dr. Mulla's educational background includes a PhD in Nutrition awarded by King's College London in 2008, which focused on the cardiovascular effects of polyphenol-rich foods, and an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from University College London (UCL).

Her research expertise encompasses a broad spectrum of nutritional epidemiology and public health nutrition. Key areas include the investigation of dietary patterns across the lifecourse and their implications for healthy ageing, the development and validation of dietary assessment methodologies (notably an MRC-funded online 24-hour recall tool for large-scale population studies), and community-based interventions targeting childhood obesity. She has extensive experience in multi-cohort studies, including cross-cohort harmonization of dietary data, and has contributed to international research initiatives such as the European FP7 Food and Health Research Across Europe (FAHRE) project. Her work often bridges clinical trials, cohort studies, and policy-relevant public health applications.
