Uma Gunasekaran

Uma Gunasekaran, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of the Division of Endocrinology. She serves as Executive Director of the Global Diabetes Program at Parkland Health. Dr. Gunasekaran earned her medical degree from the George Washington University School of Health Sciences. She completed her internal medicine residency at Mt. Auburn Hospital (Cambridge, MA) as Chief Resident and her endocrinology fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She is currently a fellow in the LEAD Program at UT Southwestern.

Her professional roles include membership on the Endocrinology Fellowship Clinical Competency Committee and participation in the Endocrinology Clinic Optimization Workgroup. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism, and has been at UT Southwestern since 2014.

Dr. Gunasekaran is affiliated with the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, the Endocrine Society, and the American Diabetes Association. Her research interests focus on endocrinology and diabetes, with a commitment to clinical care and global health initiatives.
