Ulrike Henny-Krahmer

Ulrike Henny-Krahmer serves as an Academy Junior Professor for Digital Humanities at the Institute for German Studies, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Rostock since October 2021. She coordinates the Digital Humanities elective modules for Bachelor's and Master's students and co-organizes the lecture series 'Digital Humanities in Focus.' Her position was established through the Academy Project Uwe Johnson Complete Edition by the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities.

Her research focuses on digital editions and text collections, with emphasis on information technology methods for data modeling (including text encoding), data management, and visualization. She also investigates quantitative text and data analysis methods such as topic modeling, sentiment analysis, and general data mining and machine learning approaches, examining how these can be meaningfully applied to humanities research questions. Another key research area involves the evaluation and sustainability of digital research in the humanities, addressing both how digital humanities research outcomes can be appropriately assessed and how they can be maintained for sustainable access and reuse.

Prof. Henny-Krahmer serves as board member of the scientific network 'Development, Application and Consequences of Modern Information and Communication Technologies' (IuK) at the University of Rostock, spokesperson for the Department 'Knowledge - Culture - Transformation' (WKT) of the Interdisciplinary Faculty, and Co-Managing Editor of the journal 'RIDE – A review journal for digital editions and resources.' She is also a founding member of the Rostock Digital Humanities Working Group (RosDH), member of the Technical Council of the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI), and participates in several national digital humanities organizations.

Her academic background includes a dissertation on 'Genre Analysis and Corpus Design: 19th Century Spanish American Novels (1830-1910)' completed in June 2021 at the Graduate School for the Humanities at the University of Würzburg. Prior to her current position, she worked as a Research Associate in the NFDI4Culture project at the University of Cologne (2020-2021) and in the Computational Literary Genre Stylistics (CLiGS) project at the University of Würzburg (2015-2020).
