Ulrich Thiel is a Professor of Mathematics (Algebra) at the University of Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU), affiliated with the Algebra, Geometry, and Computer Algebra group. His research focuses on representation theory, symplectic algebraic geometry, and interactions with category theory, combinatorics, and computer algebra. He is deputy speaker of the DFG SFB-TRR 195 "Symbolic Tools in Mathematics and their Application."
Thiel holds a PhD (2014) and a Diplom (2009) from the University of Kaiserslautern, with supervision by Prof. Gunter Malle. His awards include the DECRA (2018) and recognition for doctoral achievements (2014). His work involves computational methods, including contributions to the CHAMP Magma package and OSCAR system.
His research spans symplectic singularities, representation theory of algebras, and tensor categories. Notable publications include studies on fusion categories, Hecke categories, and Calogero-Moser spaces. He supervises PhD and master's students, advising on topics like tensor categories, cellular algebras, and symplectic geometry.
Thiel's funded projects include leadership in the SFB-TRR 195 and contributions to birational geometry and representation theory. His teaching covers algebraic geometry, number theory, and algebraic structures.
