Ullrich Kockel is a Professor of Culture and Economy at Heriot-Watt University (part-time appointment) and holds an Emeritus status from the University of Ulster. He previously served as Professor of European Studies at the University of the West of England, Bristol (2000–2005) and Professor of Ethnology and Folk Life at the University of Ulster (until 2012). He is also a Visiting Professor of Social Anthropology at Vytautas Magnus University, Kaunas (2011–2018). His research focuses on cultural heritage, migration, ethnoecology, and European studies, with a particular interest in frontiers, place identities, and diaspora communities. Kockel is a Fellow of the UK’s Academy of Social Sciences and a Member of the Royal Irish Academy, and他曾担任国际民族学与民俗学会 (Société Internationale d’Ethnologie et de Folklore) 的主席 (2008–2013).
