Ulf Gerdtham is a Professor at Lund University, jointly affiliated with the School of Economics and Management and the Medical Faculty. He is a Research Team Manager at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Malmö, and leads the Health Economics Unit. He also holds an Adjunct Professorship at Monash University Business School and serves as Research Director at the Swedish Institute of Health Economics.
His research agenda centers on the interplay between economic factors and health-related behavior, with a focus on income-related health inequality, consequences of risky behavior and chronic diseases, and economic evaluations of health interventions. He has published extensively in journals like Journal of Health Economics and American Journal of Public Health.
Recent publications highlight systematic reviews on loneliness interventions, cost-effectiveness analyses in oncology and mental health, and studies on child disability impacts. He leads major projects funded by the Swedish Council for Working Life and Social Research (Forte) and the Swedish Research Council, addressing health inequality, age-friendly policies, and dementia diagnostics.
He has supervised 14 research works and contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to health equity and well-being.
