Uday Rajan is the David B. Hermelin Professor of Business Administration and Professor of Finance at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business, University of Michigan. His research focuses on informational frictions like adverse selection and moral hazard in financial markets, with recent work on credit ratings and FinTech competition. He earned a PhD in Economics from Stanford University (1995) and holds degrees from Carnegie Mellon (MSIA, 1986) and the University of Delhi (BA, 1984).
Dr. Rajan's academic leadership roles include current President of the Financial Intermediation Research Society (FIRS) and past President of the Finance Theory Group (FTG). He has served as Editor of the Review of Corporate Finance Studies and Associate Editor of the Journal of Finance and Management Science. His awards include the Goldman Sachs Asset Management Award and NYSE's Best Paper on Equity Trading honor.
His research spans financial regulation, payment systems, cryptocurrency economics, and corporate governance. Key themes include how information asymmetries shape market transactions and how technology disrupts traditional financial structures. Recent work examines regulatory impacts on cause marketing and the strategic dynamics of fintech-bank competition.
