Tylir McKenzie is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department at Highline College, serving as co-chair of the LGBTQIA task force, Q Center Faculty Advisor, Assessment Committee Social Sciences Representative, and Institutional Review Board (IRB) Chair.

McKenzie's research centers on self-reflective pedagogy in undergraduate psychology classrooms, examining how instructor identity shapes educational environments. Their work integrates critical feminist frameworks with intersectional approaches to gender, sexuality, and online learning, emphasizing identity disclosure and inclusive teaching practices in higher education.
As a faculty advisor, McKenzie guides students through transfer pathways to four-year institutions including the University of Washington. They have taught specialized courses such as Human Sexuality, Psychology of Women, Sexual Identities, and Body Image at University of Washington Tacoma, along with Dangerous Women and Psychology of Gender at Central Washington University.
