Prof. Tyler Zoanni is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the University of Bremen and a core member of the DFG Research Training Group 2686: Contradiction Studies. His work focuses on disability studies, postcolonial critique, and the intersection of law, religion, and social complexity in Uganda. He explores how contradictions—such as colonial legacies, disability rights, and religious/secular dynamics—shape societal structures and individual experiences.
His research integrates theoretical frameworks from anthropology, sociology, and philosophy to analyze topics like institutional disability practices, coloniality, and the role of contradiction in driving knowledge production. He is particularly known for studies on disability in Sub-Saharan Africa, including its entanglements with Christianity, urbanization, and economic systems.
Key themes include the 'afterlife of colonialism,' the ethics of decoloniality, and the paradoxes inherent in legal and religious systems. His contributions challenge Western-centric paradigms by centering marginalized voices and non-Western contexts.
Zoanni's DFG-funded work interrogates how contradictions are not flaws to be resolved but forces that sustain social and intellectual dynamism. His articles span interdisciplinary topics, emphasizing ethnographic depth and critical theory.
