Tyler Reny is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Politics & Policy at Claremont Graduate University. During Fall 2024, he served as a Visiting Scholar at the Jack Citrin Center at UC Berkeley. He holds a PhD in Political Science from UCLA and completed post-doctoral research at Washington University in St. Louis. His academic background includes an MA in Political Science from the University of Washington and a BA in Government from Skidmore College.
His research investigates how demographic shifts, elite actions, and media narratives influence public attitudes and political behavior. Primary research domains include racial/ethnic politics, political psychology, public opinion dynamics, and data visualization methodologies. He employs diverse quantitative approaches and original datasets to examine pressing societal issues.
Reny's publications consistently explore themes of racial inequality, policy responsiveness, and mass mobilization. His work in top journals demonstrates a pattern of analyzing how crises (e.g., police violence, mass shootings) reshape public engagement with policy issues, with recurring focus on identity-based political cleavages in contemporary America.

Teaching & Advising: He teaches courses in American Political Behavior, Computational Social Science, Survey Research, and Data Visualization. As Project Coordinator for the Nationscape Survey (Democracy Fund + UCLA) and Co-PI of the Multi-Wave National Panel Study of COVID-19, he mentors graduate researchers in large-scale data projects.
Grants & Collaborations: Funded by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, New Pluralists, and National Endowment for Democracy, among others. Leads the book project Making Americans: The Racial Politics of Reproduction with collaborator Marcel Roman, and maintains active partnerships with scholars across multiple institutions.
