Tyler R. Josephson is an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in the Department of Chemical, Biochemical and Environmental Engineering within the College of Engineering and Information Technology. He is also an Affiliate Faculty Member in the Department of Computer Science & Electrical Engineering.
Education:
- B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota (2011)
- Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Delaware (2017)
Dr. Josephson's research focuses on molecular simulation to understand adsorption and catalysis in nanoporous materials, developing AI tools to model material performance and thermodynamic properties, and applying these tools for environmental processes to enable cleaner air and water solutions. His work integrates computational methods with material science and chemical engineering.
His recent publications highlight expertise in molecular simulations of hierarchical zeolites, thermodynamic derivatives via regression techniques, partial molar properties, cooperative catalysis mechanisms, and open-site distribution in catalysts. These studies often bridge computational chemistry, thermodynamics, and environmental engineering.
He leads the AI & Theory-Oriented Molecular Science (ATOMS) Lab at UMBC, where interdisciplinary research connects chemical engineering, AI, and materials science to address sustainability challenges.
