Tyler Cassidy

Tyler Cassidy is a Lecturer in Mathematical Biology (UK equivalent to assistant professor) in the School of Mathematics at the University of Leeds. His research focuses on the intersection of mathematics and medicine, using mathematical models to understand disease progression and develop treatment strategies. Prior to his current position, he worked as a senior scientist at Pfizer Inc., a postdoctoral research associate at Los Alamos National Laboratory, and a Junior Fellow at the Mittag-Leffler Institute. He completed his PhD at McGill University.

Dr. Cassidy's research interests span mathematical biology, applied mathematics, and medical applications. He specializes in developing mathematical models to understand intrapatient heterogeneity and its role in disease progression, particularly in cancer and infectious diseases like HIV. His work bridges theoretical mathematics with practical clinical applications, aiming to translate patient-specific insights into population-level treatment strategies. He has made significant contributions to modeling chemotherapy-induced side effects, HIV dynamics, and cancer treatment resistance.

His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on applying mathematical techniques to pressing medical challenges. His work ranges from modeling resistance to HIV antibodies and developing continuation techniques for biological models to characterizing chemotherapy side effects and creating models for viral oncology. These publications show his ability to apply sophisticated mathematical approaches to diverse medical problems, with particular emphasis on cancer treatment and infectious disease dynamics.

Dr. Cassidy serves as an academic editor for PLOS Computational Biology and is actively involved in the mathematical biology community. He is scheduled to organize a minisymposium on "Delayed and structured dynamics of infection and epidemic models" in July 2025 and will be attending the joint SIAM-CAIMS annual meeting. He also plans to visit the Theoretical Biology and Biophysics group at Los Alamos National Laboratory from July to September 2025.
