Dr Txuss Martin is an Affiliated Lecturer at the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics at the University of Cambridge, affiliated with the Theoretical and Applied Linguistics section. His work bridges Linguistics, Philosophy, and Cognitive Science, focusing on the interfaces of syntax-semantics-pragmatics and syntax-morphology, as well as the philosophy of grammar and its implications for cognition.
Education:
- Bachelor’s and Master’s in Linguistics and Philosophy from the University of Barcelona
- PhD in Linguistics from New York University (2012), supervised by Prof. Richard Kayne
His research explores how linguistic structures shape human consciousness, particularly through referentiality and indexicality. Recent projects include Language and Mental Health (investigating linguistic phenotypes in mental disorders) and UnCartesian Linguistics, which challenges Cartesian foundations in grammatical theory. His publications span top journals like Linguistics and Philosophy and Language Sciences, as well as edited volumes such as the Oxford Handbook of Determiners.
Scientific Awards:
- 2012: International Prize for Research on Catalan Linguistics (shared with Cedric Boeckx)
Dr Martin’s outreach includes graphic novels (e.g., Weimar. Temps incerts) and comic books (e.g., Scientia ex Machina) to popularize linguistics. He is also involved in traveling exhibitions like Talking Brains and Temps incerts, which examine language through art, science, and history.
