Tuomas Mirtti is a leading researcher in biomedicine and pathology, particularly in urology, cancer, and prostate-related research. He is affiliated with HUS Radiology and Pathology and serves as a supervisor for doctoral programs in Clinical Research and Integrative Life Science. His work focuses on biomarkers, cancer progression, and therapeutic strategies, with a strong emphasis on prostate and bladder cancers.
Key research areas include the molecular mechanisms of cancer metastasis, immunotherapy responses, and the role of specific genes (e.g., STAT5A/B, PLA2G7) in tumor behavior. He has led several high-impact projects, including the DEDUCER initiative for urological cancer diagnostics and treatment. His work spans collaborations with international teams and has been supported by prestigious grants from the Jusélius Foundation and Cancer Foundation.
- Project: DEDUCER (2017–2026) – Developing diagnostics and treatments for urological cancers.
- Project: Multiparametric model for prostate cancer precision diagnostics (2016–ongoing).
His publications highlight advancements in tumor immune microenvironment analysis, predictive biomarkers for immunotherapy, and the mechanistic basis of cancer progression. He has actively contributed to doctoral supervision and thesis oppositions in oncology and pathology.
