Dr. Tucker Adkins serves as Assistant Professor of History and Humanities at Milligan University since fall 2024, specializing in lay religious experience within the early modern British Atlantic context.
His academic credentials include:
- BA in History from University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (2013)
- MA in American Religious History from Florida State University (2017)
- PhD in American Religious History from Florida State University (2022), with dissertation defended with distinction
Dr. Adkins' research centers on the formation of religious sensibilities during the Evangelical Revival, examining how radical practices like bodily convulsions and outdoor assemblies reshaped Protestantism across 18th-century England, North America, Scotland, and Wales. His book project New Birth, New World: Religious Experience in the Awakened Atlantic World (under contract with University of Georgia Press) analyzes this transnational religious transformation, while his critical edition of William Seward's diaries (with David Ceri Jones, University of Wales Press) provides primary source insights. His scholarly contributions appear in Religion and American Culture, New England Quarterly, Scottish Church History, and Fides et Historia.
A committed member of the Anglican Church in North America since 2016, Dr. Adkins credits campus ministry with shaping his spiritual foundation and values Milligan's collaborative academic environment for enriching his pedagogy and intellectual development.
