Tua Korhonen, PhD, Docent of Greek Literature, is a Grant-Aided Researcher at the Department of World Cultures (Classical Philology) within the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Helsinki. She currently works on research projects funded by the Kone Foundation and serves as Principal Investigator for the Helleno-Nordica project focused on rediscovering Humanist Greek heritage in the Swedish Empire.
Her research spans multiple areas of classical studies with particular emphasis on Ancient Greek Literature, Linguistics, Ancient Philosophy, Ancient Zoology, and Ancient Rhetoric. Her work uniquely bridges classical scholarship with animal studies, exploring human-animal relationships in antiquity through both philosophical and literary lenses.
Analysis of her 145 publications reveals a consistent focus on Classical Philology with increasing specialization in animal studies within ancient contexts. Her scholarly output demonstrates significant contributions to understanding Greek literary heritage, particularly through translation projects of ancient dramas and philosophical texts.
Korhonen actively supervises graduate students, having guided 7 Master's theses and served as a dissertation supervisor. Her research leadership extends to multiple projects including ArZo (Species History in Aristotelian Zoology, 2025-2029), Helleno-Nordica (2017-present), and previous projects on human-animal relationships in antiquity (2019-2022).
She regularly participates in academic conferences, having delivered keynote addresses at events like the 'In the name of...' Conference on Animal Studies (2018) and contributed to exhibition curation, notably 'Humanist Greek from Finland' at the National Library of Finland (2018).
