Prof. Dr. Tuğrul TEZCAN is an Associate Professor in the Department of Basic Islamic Sciences at the Faculty of Theology, Karabük University, Turkey. He has been serving as a full-time academic since 2012, initially as an Assistant Professor and promoted to Associate Professor in 2019. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he has held significant administrative positions including Department Head since 2020 and Vice Dean from 2014 to 2020. His academic career is deeply rooted in Quranic studies and Islamic exegesis, with a focus on classical and contemporary approaches to Tafsir.
Dr. TEZCAN completed his academic education at Ankara University, earning his BA in Theology from the Faculty of Theology (1993-1998), followed by a Master's degree in Tafsir from the Institute of Social Sciences (1998-2001), and finally a Doctorate in Tafsir (2003-2010). His educational background has provided him with a strong foundation in Islamic sciences, particularly in Quranic exegesis.
His research primarily focuses on Quranic exegesis (Tafsir), with special emphasis on classical interpretation methods, linguistic analysis of Quranic text, and the application of Quranic principles to contemporary issues. His scholarly work demonstrates a deep engagement with both traditional Islamic scholarship and modern academic approaches to Quranic studies. He has made significant contributions to understanding the works of classical scholars such as Davud el-Hanefî el-Karsî el-Birgivî, Hayruddin Hızır el-Atûfî, and others who have contributed to the rich tradition of Quranic interpretation.
Dr. TEZCAN has supervised numerous graduate students, guiding 18 theses to completion as primary advisor, including both Master's and Doctoral candidates. His students have explored diverse topics within Quranic studies, ranging from specific Surah interpretations to broader methodological questions in Tafsir. His editorial work includes contributions to academic journals such as "İlahiyat" and participation in various scholarly publications.
Among his notable scholarly contributions is his work on the relationship between human dignity and consultation (Shura) in Islamic thought, as well as his explorations of aesthetic dimensions in the Quran. His research bridges traditional Islamic scholarship with contemporary academic methodologies, making significant contributions to the field of Quranic studies.
Dr. TEZCAN is actively involved in academic service, serving on committees including the Education and Teaching Committee and the Institute Management Board at Karabük University. His scholarly impact is reflected in his publications, which have received citations in academic circles, contributing to the ongoing discourse in Islamic studies and Quranic exegesis.
