Research Focus:
- Dogmatic Theology of the Orthodox Church, both diachronic and contemporary
- Orthodox Ecclesiology and Eucharistic community
- Patristic theology, especially St Theodore the Studite, St Symeon the New Theologian and St Gregory Palamas
- Byzantine iconoclastic and hesychast movements
- Theological anthropology and renewal of the human person
- Interface between liturgical life, ecclesial ethos and doctrinal expression
Across more than three decades, Professor Tsigkos has produced a corpus of monographs, critical editions and peer-reviewed articles that illuminate the inner coherence of Orthodox dogma and its relevance to modern questions. His work repeatedly situates doctrinal claims within the lived experience of the Eucharistic community, tracing how faith is embodied in worship, art and ascetic practice.
Teaching Portfolio:
- Christ and Holy Spirit in Orthodox Ecclesiology
- Dogmatic Theology of the Orthodox Church (multiple course codes)
- Interpretation of Doctrinal Texts
- Orthodox Church: Communion of the Eschata
- Themes in Dogmatic Theology I & II
- Seminar: Theology, Natural Sciences and Ecology
Publications & Impact: His research spans from the eighth-century Studite reform to twenty-first-century ecological theology, with particular attention to conciliar governance, primacy, and the theology of the human person. Recent volumes (2019) consolidate decades of reflection on Orthodox anthropology and systematic dogmatics, while earlier studies on St Theodore the Studite remain foundational for understanding Byzantine ecclesiology.
