Dr. Tsakarestou Betty is an Associate Professor and Head of the Advertising and Public Relations Lab (ADandPRLAB) at Panteion University in Athens, Greece. She specializes in strategic branding, entrepreneurial journalism, digital innovation, and co-creation methodologies. Her academic roles include serving as a visiting professor at institutions like CUNY Graduate School of Journalism and Zhejiang University, and she has led international projects such as the Connecting Cities initiative. She teaches courses on crisis management, media innovation, and corporate social responsibility across multiple universities including the University of Cyprus and Copenhagen Business School.
Her research focuses on digital creativity, mobile marketing, startup ecosystems, and cities as platforms for co-creation. She has pioneered partnerships with tech startups, media organizations, and international bodies like the AEJMC. Dr. Tsakarestou has organized major events such as the Athens Startup Weekend on Entrepreneurial Journalism and led educational programs funded by the U.S. Department of State. She holds a Ph.D. in Communication from Panteion University, with a dissertation analyzing advertising in the Fordism and post-Fordism eras.
Awarded the U.S. Department of State’s International Exchange Alumna of the Month (2017) and featured in the Women Changing Greece documentary, her work bridges academia with industry through initiatives like the Design Thinking Methodology collaboration with Inside Story. She currently serves on the Board of the Institute of Communication in Athens and contributes to European digital literacy programs.
Her professional activities include editorial roles, media literacy advocacy, and leadership in innovation hubs such as the Digital Influencers Hub Forum. She has authored chapters on international entrepreneurship and co-edited the Digital Culture book series with Pedion Publishing.
